Antonino Sciortino
Born in Bagheria, he starts to learn the blacksmith’s craft already at the age of 8 in his brother’s workshop and at the same time he becomes fond of dance, by attending a dance school in Palermo.
After a brilliant dancer’s and choreographer’s career, in 2003, in Milan, he joins the Compagnia del Giardino and begins a new artistic phase focussing on the constant quest for dance’s own ethereal lightness in iron working.
Its creations stem from the very unusual use of annealed iron wire, a special type of iron, more easily malleable, which time by time resembles wood or plastics thus enabling to create spatial animations featuring soft lines and “dancing” shadows.
Sciortino recovers that extremely rich heritage of artisan knowledge in which Italian flair and creativity really let their light shine, by heralding the excellence and creativity of our country all over the world.
